1. Do you offer financial aid?
We are an accredited school through NAACAS and Federal Financial Aid is available to those who qualify. We also offer financial assistance through a Smart Option Loan offered by Sallie Mae. In order to have funds available by the time school begins, students are encouraged to begin the application process 90 days prior to the program start date. 2. Is housing provided?
The Aveda Institute Des Moines can assist students in finding suitable housing by referring to apartment/housing finders. We do not own or operate housing facilities. Students can also complete a roommate request form
available from the Office of Admissions.
3. What does the investment for tuition include?
The investment for tuition includes tuition, a kit fee, a registration fee, and an application fee.
4. Am I guaranteed a job once I’ve graduated from my program?
The Aveda Institute Des Moines is primarily an institution of learning and does not guarantee job placement. However, with a network of many salons and spas nationwide, The Aveda Institute Des Moines can help you begin your professional career. We will help you gain the knowledge you will need with bi-annual career fairs, and self-promotional instruction. 6. How many hours do I need to be a licensed cosmetologist/esthetician/massage therapist?
To receive a license in the state of Iowa, a cosmetologist needs to accrue 2100 hours and an esthetician needs to accrue 600 hours. Massage Therapy is a 750 hour program at the Aveda Institute.
7. Where do I take my State Board exam once I’ve finished the program?
The State of Iowa handles all examination and licensing. For questions on licensing in Iowa, please contact the Office of Student Services, Deb Erixon, 515.309.8808.
8. Is there a uniform?
Yes. Maintaining a professional appearance is vital to success. The Aveda Institute Des Moines requires all students to wear solid black shirts, black pants and black shoes. The Aveda Institute Des Moines will provide each student in his or her kit an apron to be clean, neat and worn during all classroom and clinic floor hours. Identification badges are to be worn as issued during all school hours.
9. How many students are in a class?
Because the Aveda Institute Des Moines is selective in its admissions process, the Cosmetology program allows for 15-20 students to begin each enrollment period. The Esthiology and Massage Therapy classes allow for 8-10 students to begin each enrollment period.
10. What is the schedule?
The Aveda Institute Des Moines offers an eco-friendly schedule of ten hour days, three days per week. This schedule allows students flexibility to enjoy outside interests and find balance in their life.
11. Where are you located?
We are located in the Jordan Creek Town Center – just south of Jordan Creek Mall, directly across from Costco.
