Cosmetology Program Overview

The training program provides theoretical study which serves as the foundation of the student’s education. Practical experience builds on classroom theory to provide the essential technical training of a salon professional. Each phase of the students’ education emphasizes a different combination of fundamental cosmetology subject matter. The Cosmetology program is comprised of hair and scalp treatments, hair shaping, hair arranging, chemical waving and relaxing, hair coloring, facial treatments and skin care, hair removal, natural nail care, and acrylic nails. The program also provides instruction in Des Moines, Iowa law, safety, and sanitation, as well as personal/business development and career management.

Program Objective

The objective of this program is to prepare the students for the state licensing examination in Cosmetology and to provide appropriate and comprehensive training thereby enabling them to enter the field of Cosmetology. Graduates of the program will be employable as salon service providers, salon sales representatives, salon owners/managers, business managers, industry educators, and freelance artists. The Aveda Institute graduate will receive a diploma in Cosmetology and will be prepared to enter the industry with a higher than average skill level. Contact us to learn more.

Instructional Methods

The program is taught using several different types of instructional methods such as iPad curriculum, hands-on techniques, demonstrations, classroom learning, visuals, and research.

I would totally recommend Aveda! The students really care about the clients, and the environment is SO relaxed and full of energy. I also want to give a shout out to their instructor Whitney V, she goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy. I loved how kind she was to the clients, and her students as well. I really liked how she worked with them and taught them with such positivity. I received the cut I desired and really appreciated the professionalism and same day appts. Emma Kate did a great job on my hair!

Isabella C really listened to my concerns and together with the educator for the hair color, which was gray. Isabella took the time during the bleaching out the top new-grown hair (it was natural black) and toning process to make sure the gray color was achieved. Afterwards, she stayed late to achieve the perfect blow dry and curled my hair. I told her that I had an important event. She was friendly, patient, and enjoys. All of that, she made the first experience for me that much more enjoyable and great decision on using service at beauty school. Believe that their students will be succeed and great cosmology out there 🙂
