Community Involvement: It’s Part of the Gig

The Aveda Institute Des Moines is known for being a center for learning and developing technical skill in the areas of cosmetology, esthiology, and massage therapy (#ofcourse), however, we are also proud to be known for creating programs and developing opportunities beyond the chair and therapy room. Our Earth and Community Care Team, a group led by our instructors and current students, focuses on monthly projects of their choice to help give back to our local community while utilizing our resources and technical skill sets. This August, for example, a group of our students ventured to @fitdsm to teach easy hairstyles to a group of girls during their leadership & empowerment camp.

Another group of our students also ventured to downtown Des Moines for the annual Glow With the Flow yoga event held at Brenton Skating Plaza. Students helped do the body art ? painting for participants and then got to do the Yoga class themselves! These fun, community inspired events are a great way for students to engage themselves with locals and use their skills to give back, which in our book, is exactly what the beauty industry is!
