Textured Tuesday: Students Get a Visit from Tippi Shorter

Textured hair. Over 2/3 of the world’s population has some degree of curl or texture to their mane, and being educated on how to properly cut, style, and care for varying degrees of texture is a huge part of the beauty industry.

Recently the Aveda Institute Des Moines was beyond delighted to bring in one of the industry leaders in textured hair, celebrity stylist Tippi Shorter. Tippi’s background in the industry extends over 15 years and includes behind the chair work, salon ownership, editorial and runaway styling, in addition to working with celebrity clients including Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Vanessa Williams among other actresses, musicians, and supermodels.

She was also formerly Aveda’s Global Artistic Director for Textured Hair and continues to lead classes in this field as a guest artist.

Tippi led classes all day for students which included her demoing a live haircut on a model and providing instruction while students then applied their practical skills on textured hair mannequins.

This was a great opportunity for students to review technique, styling, and product knowledge as well as get industry insight from Tippi. We certainly learned a lot and are grateful for the visit!
